It's a community-based superhero story!!  Well, anti-hero.  He started out as an OC Batman villain and he's still sort of that but there's a whole world of heroes and villains and other anti-heroes growing up around him and people are adding to the mythos as fast as they can type/draw and I need sleep and I DON'T CARE because this is the coolest thing I ever seen happen, people.  Community-sourced superhero!  I'm beside myself.  SO COOL!!

Oh my gods, I saw the picture that first inspired The Knitter on Tumblr! It was just some random guy brandishing knitting needles and wearing stuff that he had knitted; he was trying to prove that there are dudes who knot.

And somehow I missed HIM NOW BEING A COMMUNITY-SOURCED SUPERHERO.

I KNOW. tumblr is a magical land of craziness. As far as I can tell, what happened was someone made an offhand comment that he looked a bit like a DC villain, then challenged a tumblr artist to draw it, and the drawing of him-as-villain The Knitter sparked everything else off.

I may have searched the tag and then spend four hours I should've been sleeping reading and giggling madly until I got to the end of the tag.
