Two Chapters
Jan. 7th, 2013 12:06 amSo due to the family stuff, I didn't work on Trial almost at all in the second half of December. I am trying to get back into the swing of my regular life, and today I decided that included my novel, so I sat down with Trial and pounded out not one, but TWO chapters! Longest sitting for this book yet. Two primary reasons: I felt the lack of progress keenly, even with life stuff, and also I've reach the halfway point and an incredibly pivotal moment for Eva and Scorch. Those two chapters were essentially one scene, which made writing them in one day much easier.
3k more progress today also means I've hit the halfway point at Chapter 13 of 26. As expected, the draft is longer than I'd like--17.5k instead of my goal 15k--but that still puts me in reasonable territory for the first draft if the second half of the book is the same length as the first. If the first draft is 35k I won't weep, I'll just have to work really hard to keep the final from being too long.
I admit, I'm a little bit amazed I got through both these pivotal chapters for Eva and Scorch without going beyond my goal wordcount for each chapter. One thing this book is definitely teaching me is how to write compactly.
