anthimeria: Woman drawing a sword, the words "Sword and Sorceress XXV" (SS XXV)
[personal profile] anthimeria
Ended today with 49,242 words in draft v.  This draft is kicking and screaming all the way.  I've had to re-do a ton of research to write tiny little scenes, or add flavor, and today I chopped up and re-wrote an early scene entirely, and I need my next reader to tell me whether or not it should come up again.  I don't think it needs to, but it might.

Remember those Big Changes?  How I had hoped to have the entire list done within a week?  I've gotten through ONE, and I'm not sure it's finished with me yet.

Yeah.

I might not make it out of this draft by June.

(On a happier note, I am extremely pleased with the scene I had to chop into tiny bits and re-write.  It just took forever, and netted me not much in the way of expanding word count, since it was only one paragraph longer when I finished.  The content was almost entirely different and much better, but not much longer.)

(Also, I don't know what it is about coming into the home stretch of serious drafting on this book that makes me want to post all the time, but it TOTALLY DOES.  I want to rage and flail and complain and detail all my tiny triumphs at the end of every editing session.  I'm aware this would become extremely boring, since it's essentially writerly navel-gazing, so I'm trying to limit it to major milestones and/or twice a week unless I have other actual content.)
