I have FINALLY acquired my new laptop, and with the help of tech support, forced Windows 7 to accept my backup from Windows XP.
First: YAY! I didn't lose any writing!
Second: . . . all the files are alphabetical. With none of the previously-existing folder structure.
Which means every document called "Plot" is right next to every other document called "Plot," and I will have to go back in and create an organizational structure from scratch. Which is going to take forever and a day. But at least nothing's missing.
(Well, okay, I lost everything I didn't have backed up, like the page proofs from S&S and the constantly-out-of-date to-do list I kept on my desktop, but whatever, I have the most important stuff.)
I am also in a festive mood, so I would like to wish everyone to whom it applies a Merry Christmas!
