Empty Nest Syndrome
Nov. 25th, 2009 07:58 pmI feel like I just sent my kid off to sleepaway camp--it's not college, but it is the first time they've been away from home for so long.
The Novel has reached its fourth draft, and all my notes right now boil down to "I think this works, but check with an editor" and "This doesn't work but I can't figure out how to fix it! I need new eyes." Two of my friends who are also writer/editors have graciously agreed to look the thing over, for which I am eternally grateful. Now I just have to convince my hindbrain to stop fretting. The day after I finished Draft IV I was jumpy the whole day because there was a voice in the back of my head going, "Must work on the novel, must work on the novel, why am I not working on the novel?"
While The Novel is in others' capable hands, I am going to hunker down and do serious research for Skywatch. Nineteenth century Egyptian and Indian clothing, pneumatics, meteorology, mystery writing, steampunk, and anything else remotely relevant.
