Writing in multiple subgenres
Partly to celebrate the completion of Draft II, and partly to give myself a little necessary distance before I start creating Draft III, I gave myself a week off between drafts. I wanted to read, get caught up on tv, look into paying jobs, and work on Skywatch.
Items 1-3 went swimmingly. Working on Skywatch, though . . . I had a lot of trouble sinking back into the steampunk mentality after living in high fantasy for two months. A surprising amount of trouble. I've always worked on multiple stories at once, though admittedly never as intensely as I've been focused on The Novel. I love working in weird subgenres and on a bunch of projects at the same time, if only because if I get stuck or bored I can still be productive. The week off is almost over, and I've only just settled comfortably back into Skywatch's world. I don't know if this means I should work on multiple projects all the time, so I keep my toes in my worlds and it won't take as long to get back into their groove, or if I would be more productive focusing on one project at a time.
I don't know. I'm still thinking about it and testing my options. Draft III calls, but at the same time, I want to get Skywatch up and running so that I'm set to start writing it by the time work on The Novel peters out.
. . . and the lack of a title for The Novel is still bugging me.
